Common worries about septic work
Not sure what you need
We check the system and tell you what we find, then say if a full inspection is needed.
When to pump
SC DES says most tanks need pumping every 3 to 5 years. Tank size and household size move that number.
Buying or selling
Buyers, lenders and agents often ask for a written septic report. Ask us about an inspection.
A backup at night
We take emergency septic calls 24/7. Call and tell us what is happening.

How to keep your septic system running
From SC DES and EPA guidance. It applies whoever you hire.
Pump on schedule
Most tanks need pumping every 3 to 5 years. Busy homes may need it sooner.
Get it inspected
Inspect it every 1 to 2 years, or yearly if it has pumps or moving parts.
Protect the drain field
Keep cars off it, rain runoff away from it, and plant trees well back from it.
Watch what goes down
Wipes, grease, coffee grounds and cat litter don't belong in a septic system.
The drain field is the buried area where treated water soaks into the ground.

Homeowner questions
How much does septic work cost?
| Residential, no pump | $499 |
|---|---|
| Residential, with a pump | $699 |
| Commercial | $699 |
Everything else is quoted in writing before work starts. What moves the price:
- How easy the tank is to reach
- How much is damaged
- The soil
- Whether a permit is needed
The written contract sets the price. If we run into something no one could see beforehand, like rock or the water table, we stop and go over it with you before any added cost.
How often should I pump and inspect my septic tank?
- Pump: most household tanks need it every 3 to 5 years.
- Inspect: SC DES says every 1 to 2 years, and every year if the system has pumps or other moving parts.
Tank size, household size, water use and a garbage disposal change where you land.
Can I use a septic additive instead of pumping?
No. SC DES says additives are not necessary and some may be harmful, and they do not replace regular pumping.
How and when do I pay?
Homeowners pay when the job is done. Commercial accounts can ask about terms.
What is a certified septic report?
A written report on your existing septic system, signed by us under our license. It says what we found and what the system needs, and we use it for repairs, drain field extensions and permits.
What should never go down the drain?
Only human waste and toilet paper belong in the toilet. Keep these out of the whole system:
- Wipes, even ones labeled flushable
- Cooking grease and oil
- Coffee grounds and cat litter
- Paper towels and dental floss
- Medications and household chemicals
